Staff Spotlight: Introducing Stimson (Our Blind, Brave Hero Donor)

If you visit VetLand and spot a handsome red-headed poodle with a permanent wink and an uncanny talent for melting hearts, chances are you’ve just met my boy, Stimpson.

Behind that sweet face is a story that still gets me every time.

Stimpson had a heartbreaking beginning. He was rescued from euthanasia after being deemed “non-profitable” by his breeder. He came into my life when he was just 2 months old — tiny, vulnerable, and already facing challenges most dogs should never have to endure.

He was born with a congenital eye deformity and has been largely blind his entire life. But despite everything stacked against him, Stimpson has grown into the gentlest little soul you could imagine.

He’s a handsome boy, endlessly affectionate, and all he truly wants is to know someone he loves is close by. If you stop to pat him, you’ve officially made his entire day.

A Late-Life Career Change

Born on St. Patrick’s Day, this 12-year-old “Love Bug” has unexpectedly become a bit of a medical pioneer.

Stimpson is now one of the key donor dogs in our Microbial Transplant Program — and in the most wonderfully strange twist of fate, the little dog once discarded is now helping other dogs heal.

We’re seeing a huge rise in dogs struggling with chronic, debilitating gut health issues. For families who’ve tried every diet, medication, probiotic, and treatment without success, a Fecal Microbiota Transplant (FMT) can sometimes feel nothing short of miraculous.

To become a donor, Stimpson underwent incredibly strict screening to ensure his gut microbiome met “gold standard” health criteria. And honestly? He takes his new role very seriously.
