Ear infections in pets can be a real headache, not just for them but for their owners too. Poor Keke, a lively and loving Corgi, was no stranger to this struggle. Her severe ear infections led us to a surprising discovery and a remarkable treatment that changed her life.
Keke had been dealing with painful ear infections for years. No matter the treatment, the infections kept coming back, causing her constant discomfort. The situation took a serious turn when she began experiencing severe neck pain, prompting an urgent visit to our 24/7 hospital.
Upon examination, we discovered that Keke had a bulging disc in her neck, likely caused by chronic head shaking due to her painful ears. A CT scan and a myelogram confirmed this diagnosis, and we immediately started treatment for her neck. But we knew we had to address the root cause—her persistent ear infections.
Despite previous treatments, Keke’s ear infection was proving to be a tough nut to crack. We spent several weeks treating her with ear flushes and medications, which helped calm the infection but didn’t provide a long-term solution. We needed a more permanent fix.
Enter the lateral wall resection of the ear canal—a surgical procedure designed to open up the ear canal, improve ventilation, and make it easier to administer medication. This was our best shot at giving Keke lasting relief.
Keke underwent the surgery successfully, and we were thrilled with the results. She wore a protective collar for three weeks post-surgery to ensure proper healing. The transformation was incredible. Her ears, once a source of constant pain, were now pain-free and comfortable.
Keke’s journey didn’t end with the surgery. To maintain her ear health, she is now on a once-a-week maintenance therapy. This routine has been incredibly effective, and Keke is back to her happy, playful self.
Keke’s story highlights the importance of addressing chronic ear infections comprehensively. The lateral wall resection procedure we performed on Keke is something we are proud to offer at VetLand. It provides lasting relief and significantly improves the quality of life for pets suffering from persistent ear infections.
If your furry friend is struggling with chronic ear infections, don’t wait for the condition to worsen. Schedule a consultation with our veterinarians to explore this innovative surgical option. Keke’s journey from pain to comfort is a testament to the effectiveness of this procedure, and we’re excited to offer the same relief to more pets in need.
