Will CBD Oil help my pet?

Will CBD Oil help my pet?

Isn’t this such a hotly debated medical topic at the moment?! The benefits for medical marijuana are indisputable, but what is available for our pets? And does it do them any good?

Whether you’re looking for a natural pain relief alternative, or a supplement to your pets medical treatments, we field a lot of questions about CBD oil from our pet parents. If you’ve ever wondered – this article is for you!

Is CBD oil the same as hemp oil?

The answer is most certainly ‘no’! Hemp oil is extracted from hemp seeds and a great natural anti-inflammatory, working in the same way as fish oils. However, CBD oil comes from the leaves, flowers and stalks of the hemp plant and can assist in managing MANY conditions.

When can CBD oil be helpful for my pet?

When it comes to our pets, we are still learning more and more about this amazing product. At this stage, CBD oil has been shown to be helpful in managing;

  • Anxiety
  • Epilepsy
  • Chronic Pain
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Skin conditions

However, success will be very different – depending on your individual pet. It’s certainly always best to consult with your veterinarian before starting CBD oil for your pet. Discussing a dosage plan will be best with your veterinarian as it is so individual and variable.

There are a few different brands of CBD oil, are they all the same?

As with everything – there is no substitute for quality! Whilst there are many CBD oil products for pets, only some are of a beneficial quality. They should have papers that verify that their products have been tested. If you’re confused or finding it hard to decide, head to your vet. They are your best source of opinion and (depending on the clinic) they will be able to write you a prescription with a company, and product, they know is quality assured.

CBD oil can be flavoured to make it more tasty for your pet, and mixed into their food.

Team up with your vet so that they can put you in touch with a reputable supplier!

Ok, we know you’re thinking it – will your pet get ‘high’ from CBD oil?

The simple answer is if you are using prescribed medicinal grade CBD oil from an authorised source, then no, your pet will not get high. While other cannabinoids, such as THC, are intoxicating, CBD is not.

It is super important, and I cannot stress this enough, that cannabis itself is highly toxic to dogs. Any recreational cannabis users can make their pets very VERY sick if the pet is even exposed to exhaled smoke.

So, if you’re looking for a natural alternative, or something to add to your pets current medical therapy your fur baby could benefit from CBD oil. Give us a ring and we can organise a consultation and put you in touch with the right supplier.
